Rally Di Como 2014 – The Italian WRC Championship Finale

Quando siamo andati alla prima tappa assoluta del nuovo Campionato Italiano WRC, nei pressi del Lago di Garda, non avevamo bene idea di cosa aspettarci. Da un veloce sguardo all’elenco iscritti abbiamo però da subito capito che alcuni dei top drivers Italiani avrebbero infiammato le strade dello stivale. E così è stato anche per l’ultima tappa del CIWRC.

When we went to the first ever event of the brand new Italian WRC Championship, near by the Garda Lake, we had no good idea of what to expect. But after a quick look at the entry list we understood that some of the best Italians drivers would have ignited the good ol’ boot. And so it was also for the last round of the CIWRC.

Il 33° Rally di Como si è svolto tra le stupende colline nei pressi del famoso lago, in una bella e soleggiata giornata autunnale. Si sente l’eco delle auto durante i trasferimenti e dopo pochi minuti eccole finalmente apparire.

The 33^rd Rally di Como tool place between the wonderful hills next to the famous lake, in a beautiful and sunny autumn day. You can feel the echo of the cars during the transfers and after a few minutes here they finally appear.

Una curva, le foglie secche sollevate dal vortice d’aria provocato dal passaggio a velocità folli da parte dei piloti, lo scoppiettio degli scarichi e il cinguettio delle wastegate. Come si fa a non amare i rally?

A bend, the dry leaves taken up by the air vortex caused by the mental driving style of the drivers, the crackle from the exhausts and the twittering of the wastegates. How can one not love rallies?

Ovviamente anche le piccole hatchback hanno fatto la loro parte, sia nelle versioni S2000 e S1600

che nelle più “tranquille” Gr.R e Gr.N. Anzi, spesso sono tra i più agguerriti in strada.

and in the more “quiet” Gr.R and Gr.N specs. Well, they are rather some of the most aggressive on the road.

Come sempre la presenza di qualche auto storica non fa altro che rendere l’atmosfera ancora più speciale.

As always the presence of some historic cars have just made the whole atmosphere even more special.

Porsche, Alpine, Fiat, Ford, Lancia… una più bella dell’altra, specialmente in un contesto come questo.

La sfida tra i “big” è durata fino alla sesta ed ultima prova speciale. La coppia Sossella-Falzone su Ford Fiesta WRC ha corso una delle gare migliori della stagione, vincendo il Rally di Como

The challenge among the “big” drivers went on till the sixth and last special stage. The duo Sossella-Falzone on Ford Fiesta WRC made one of their best races of the whole season, winning the Rally di Como

con poco più di un minuto di vantaggio sulla Citroen DS3 WRC di Felice Re e Mara Bariani.

with a little more than a one minute advantage over the Citroen DS3 WRC of Felice Re and Mara Bariani.

Purtroppo per loro non è però bastato a vincere il titolo iridato, aggiudicato dai due bresciani Pedersoli e Romano su Citroen C4 WRC, dominatori del campionato fin dalla prima tappa e che hanno finito il Rally di Como, amministrando il loro vantaggio, in sesta posizione.

Unfortunately for them this was not enough to win the overall championship title, won by the two guys from Brescia Pedersoli and Romano with their Citroen C4 WRC, dominators of the season since the first race and that have ended the Rally di Como, administering their advantage, in sixth place.

Il sipario è calato sul CIWRC 2014 e dopo il successo di questo primo anno non vediamo l’ora di poter assistere a qualche tappa dell’edizione 2015, magari con qualche altro top team a dare battaglia ai campioni in carica.

The curtain has fallen over the 2014 CIWRC and after the success of this first year we can’t wait to see a few more events of the 2015 edition, maybe with a few other top teams to give battle to the reigning champions.
