Finalmente sono tornate sul mitico tracciato brianzolo di Monza le tanto attese vetture GT2 e GT3 dell’International GT Open. E dopo un anno di attesa il penultimo appuntamento del campionato si è presentato con tante aspettative, sia per i piloti che per i team.

Finally the long awaited GT2 and GT3 cars of the International GT Open are back on the legendary Monza race track. And after a whole year of waiting the second to last race of the championship it’s arrived with a lot of expectations for both drivers and teams.

 

Ma andiamo con ordine: gara 1, che si è corsa di Sabato, si è svolta sotto un cielo uggioso ma per fortuna privo di pioggia. La Ferrari 458 GT2 della Villorba e la Corvette della V8 Racing sono le due auto più attese del fine settimana, poiché sono le sfidanti principali per il titolo assoluto di classe SuperGT, ma anche in classe GTS il campionato è ancora aperto.

But let’s proceed in order: race 1, which was held on Saturday, took place under a cloudy but luckily not rainy sky. Villorba’s Ferrari 458 GT2 and the Corvette of the V8 Racing team are the two most awaited cars of the weekend, because they are the main challengers for the overall title in SuperGT class, but also in GTS class the championship is still open.

ma dopo il mandatorio cambio di piloti la 458 della Villorba scende in quinta posizione, lasciando il secondo posto all’altra McLaren del team BhaiTech guidata da Luiz Razia e Chris Van der Drift.

but after the mandatory driver change Villorba’s 458 fall down in 5^th position, leaving the 2^nd place to the other McLaren of the BhaiTech team driven by Luiz Razia and Chris Van der Drift.

 

Lo spettacolo in pista con più di 30 auto è come sempre dei migliori.

The show on the track with more than 30 cars is, as always, one of the best.

 

Nonostante la presenza di tanti giovani e gentlemen driver l’agonismo è veramente alto, proprio come nei più famosi campionati GT.

Despite the presence of many young and gentlemen drivers the competition is really high, just like in the most famous GT championships.

 

Con le posizioni di testa che rimangono invariate la BhaiTech fa registrare una storica prima vittoria e doppietta per la McLaren nel GT Open, seguiti al terzo posto dalla Ferrari 458 del team Esta Motorsport con Alessandro Pier Guidi e Aleksandr Skryabin autori di una bella gara.

With the first positions unchanged the BhaiTech takes an historical first and double win for the McLaren in the GT Open, followed at 3^rd place by the Ferrari 458 of the Esta Motorsport with Alessandro Pier Guidi and Aleksandr Skryabin authors of a good race.

 

Montermini, con il quinto posto, solidifica ulteriormente la sua leadership nei confronti della Corvette di Ramos e Pastorelli e ogni tipo di festeggiamento viene, per il momento, rimandato.

Montermini, with his 5^th place, solidifies even more his leadership against the Corvette of Ramos and Pastorelli and every kind of celebration, for now, is postponed.

 

Gara 2 parte dietro la safety car a causa di una leggera pioggia e dopo due giri le 31 auto del GT Open si sono fiondate verso la prima variante. Nessun incidente per fortuna, ma le Ferrari 458 della AF Corse stringono la 458 della Villorba in una morsa che non permette così la fuga a Montermini.

Race 2 starts behind the safety car because of a little rain and after 2 laps the 31 cars of the GT Open blast to the first corner. Luckily there are no crashes, but the Ferrari 458s of the AF Corse team squeeze Villorba’s 458 in a vise that doesn’t let Montermini to get away.

Nel carosello dei pit stop si mischiano nuovamente le carte.

Alla Ferrari 458 della Villorba vengono dati 45 secondi di handicap da scontare durante il cambio pilota a causa degli eccellenti risultati conseguiti nelle gare precedenti, facendo così scivolare Montermini e Rigon indietro di diverse posizioni e lasciando le posizioni di testa alle auto di classe GTS.

45 seconds of handicap are given to the Ferrari 458 of the Villorba team during the driver change because of the excellent results achieved in the previous races, sliding back of various positions Montermini and Rigon and leaving the first places to the GTS class cars.

 

Sotto il casco tutti i piloti entrati per l’ultimo stint di gara erano concentratissimi a non fare errori sul viscido asfalto

Under the helmet all the drivers the took over for the last stint of race were very concentrated not to make mistakes on the slippery tarmac

 

e i meno fortunati sono dovuti rientrare dopo poco a causa delle forature dovute alle escursioni di pista.

and the less fortunates had to come back in the pit lane after a few laps because of the punctures caused by the runway excursions.

 

Intanto nelle prime posizioni sono i Russi a farla da padroni. Staccati a fine corsa da poco più di un secondo, entrambe le 458 dei team SMP Racing Russian Bears ed Esta Motorsports hanno condotto una gara fantastica

Meanwhile in the first position the Russians are leading. Separated by just over a second at the end of the race, both the 458s of the SMP Racing Russian Bears and Esta Motorsports teams did a fantastic race

 

prendendo il largo sul terzo classificato Bontempelli che riguadagna così la testa di classe in attesa dell’ultimo round di Barcellona.

leaving behind the third placed  Bontempelli that in this way takes again the first place in GTS class, waiting for the last round of Barcelona.

 

Per lo spagnolo Rosell e il russo Mavlanov, una delle coppie più giovani del campionato, si è trattato del primo successo in assoluto nel GT Open e la gioia sul podio era per loro comprensibilmente incontenibile.

For the spanish Rosell and the russian Mavlanov, one of the youngest duo of the championship, this has been their first success in the GT Open and the joy on the podium was understandably uncontainable.

 

Ma la vera notizia è che Montermini, sorpassando nel finale la diretta avversaria Corvette della V8 Racing, ha conquistato matematicamente il titolo assoluto di classe SuperGT con una gara di anticipo. Per la squadra trevigiana è un vero trionfo, in una stagione condita da ben 11 podi su 12 gare.

But the real news is that Montermini, overtaking in the final part of the race the opponent Corvette of the V8 Racing, mathematically won the overall title in SuperGT class with  with a race still to go. For the Treviso based team it’s a real triumph, in a season made of 11 podium out of 12 races.

 

Ora non manca altro che aspettare le ultime 2 corse della stagione a Barcellona per delineare definitivamente tutte le classifiche ma quello che noi possiamo augurarci è di vedere tra un altro anno tante altre sfide avvincenti come quelle vista lo scorso weekend tra i cordoli di Monza.

Now we just have to wait for the last 2 races of the season in Barcelona to finally outline all the standings but what we can hope for is to see many other thrilling challenges next year, just like the ones that we’ve seen last weekend between Monza’s corners.

 

Il GT Open rimane sempre uno dei campionati più belli e combattuti d’Europa e, per la gioia degli spettatori, è sempre condito con stupende sfide in pista… e non solo.

The GT Open still remains one of the most beautiful and fought championships in Europe and, for the joy of the spectators, it’s always spiced with awesome fights on the track… And not only that.
