In queste settimane, con l’inizio dei campionati, le giornate di test invernali stanno volgendo al termine e molti team si riversano in pista per affinare i setup, le mappature e l’aerodinamica delle loro macchine. Mercoledì è stata la giornata dei Winter Test Days organizzati da Marzi Sport presso l’Autodromo di Monza e ben 30 vetture occupavano i box del tracciato brianzolo.

In these weeks, with the beginning of the championships, the winter test days are coming to an end and many teams overflow the racing tracks to refine the setups, the ECU mappings and the aerodynamic of their cars. Wednesday has been the day of the Winter Test Days organized by Marzi Sport at the Autodromo di Monza and a good 30 cars were in the boxes of the track.

Come molti sanno, il 2012 è l’anno del grande ritorno alle corse in un campionato FIA GT per uno dei più famosi costruttori inglesi, McLaren, con la fantastica MP4-12C GT3. E’ dai tempi della leggendaria F1 GTR che non si vedeva gareggiare una vettura GT marchiata McLaren in FIA GT e le aspettative sono ovviamente alte. A scendere per la prima volta in pista a Monza è stato il team United Autosport, che ha portato due MP4. Una per testare setup e motore, mentre l’altra è stata usata per testare la resistenza aerodinamica dell’auto.

As many of you may know, 2012 is the year of the great comeback to races in a FIA GT championship for one of the most famous british manufacturer, McLaren, with the fantastic MP4-12C GT3. It’s since the days of the legendary F1 GTR that a GT car from McLaren wasn’t racing in FIA GT, and of course there are high expectations. Going on the Monza track for the very first time, the United Autosport Team, that brought two MP4s. One for testing setups and engine management, while the other one has been used to test the aerodynamic drag of the car.

Come si vede bene in questo scatto, piccoli nastri vengono posizionati per studiare i flussi dell’aria a contatto con le superfici, mentre una GoPro posizionata nel punto giusto serve a filmare l’azione e aiutare gli ingegneri nell’analisi dei flussi.

As you can clearly see in this shot, small stripes are placed to study the aero flows on the surfaces, while a GoPro mounted in the right place is used to film the action and help the engineers with the analysis of the flows.

Lo stupendo motore V8 Twin Turbo, con oil cooler montato in alto, scarichi rivestiti in ceramica e foglia d’oro (classica McLaren) a isolare termicamente l’abitacolo, è un capolavoro sia per prestazioni che per cura nei dettagli.

The wonderful V8 Twin Turbo engine, with top-mounted oil cooler, ceramic coated exhausts and gold leaf (a classic from McLaren cars) to insulate the cockpit from the heat, it’s a real work of art for both performaces and attention to details.

Onestamente siamo veramente curiosi di vedere questa bellezza in azione nel Blancpain Endurance Series 2012!

Sempre a testare per la classe GT3, le Ferrari 458 dei team Vita4One, Black Bull Swiss Racing e AF Corse. La 458 della Vita4One è stata velocissima e veramente aggressiva in pista

così come lo è stata la nuova 458 del team Black Bull, che ha abbandonato la F430 a favore di una macchina più veloce e competitiva.

Pyro ha invece portato la Mercedes SLS AMG GT3, auto che nonostante la coppia generosa non è riuscita a tenere il passo delle Ferrari.

Pyro instead, brought the Mercedes SLS AMG GT3, a car that despite the big amount of torque has not been able to keep the pace of the Ferraris.

13 erano invece le Clio Cup che hanno praticamente creato delle mini-gare per tutta la sessione di prove! A gruppi di 2 o più auto si sono lanciate in giochi di scie e sorpassi.

13 were the Clio Cup that basically created some mini-races for the whole day! In groups of 2 or more cars they’ve launched themselves in some slipstream and overtakes games.

C’è anche chi ha preferito “sfidare” l’unica Aston Martin GT4 presente e possiamo assicurare che anche all’uscita della veloce Ascari una certa Clio rossa si è fatta sotto in modo molto minaccioso! Ovviamente l’Aston nei lunghi rettilinei prendeva il largo e di fatti ha girato 4 secondi più veloce al giro rispetto alle piccole francesi.

There is also who tried to “challenge” the only Aston Martin GT4 and we can assure that also coming out from the fast Ascari bend a certain red Clio was closing up in a really menacing way! Of course the Aston in the long straights was easily pulling away, in fact it was lapping the track 4 seconds quicker than the small french cars.

Altra categoria presente, quella dei prototipi. La Lucchini SR2 Sport del Team Sogno guidata da Barisone era veramente rapida in pista e stupenda da vedere

Another class was there, the prototypes. The Lucchini SR2 Sport of the Team Sogno, driven by Barisone, was really fast on the track and beautiful to watch racing

mentre la Corbari Sport della Stilo Corse ha purtroppo effettuato solo pochi giri in pista, nessuno dei quali valido per un tempo cronometrato.

Tra tutta questa elettronica, aerodinamica e tecnologia, il team Black Bull ha portato anche una rara e stupenda Bizzarrini 5300 Corsa. E’ stato un onore poter vedere in pista questa gemma dell’automobismo. E’ veramente una delle auto più belle mai costruite, un esempio della maestria degli artigiani Italiani nel lavorare l’alluminio per creare vere opere d’arte. Ora non rimane altro che aspettare l’inizio dei campionati e vedere i frutti di questi test direttamente in gara!

Among all this electronic, aerodynamic and technology, the team Black Bull brought also a rare and fantastic looking Bizzarrini 5300 Corsa. It has been an honor to being able to see this automotive gem. It really is one of the most beautiful cars ever built, an example of the skills of the Italian artisans at working with the aluminum to creato real work of art. Now nothing remains but to wait the start of the championships and see the results of these tests directly in the race!
