Modena Cento Ore 2018: Race, Rally, Travel, Repeat

Quattro giorni, quattro circuiti, quattro città, 850 km. La Modena Cento Ore è quel tipo di manifestazione motoristica che fa venire i brividi, a tutti, indistintamente. Se vedere correre in pista GT da corsa degli anni d’oro del periodo che va dagli anni ’50 agli anni ’80, può essere una cosa ormai “normale”, vederle percorrere prove speciali su tortuosi nastri di asfalto e trasferimenti attraverso magnifiche città e strade mozzafiato, ecco, questo non è “normale”.

Four days, four race tracks, four cities, 850 kms. The Modena Cento Ore is that kind of motoring event that gives you shivers down the spine, to everyone, actually, without distinction. If watching GT race cars from the golden age that goes from the 50s to the 80s racing on race tracks could be almost considered “normal”, to see them going through special stages on twisty stripes of tarmac and doing the transfer routes through gorgeous cities and breathtaking roads, well, this is not “normal”.

Immaginate solo per un momento una Ford GT40, acceleratore a fondo corsa, che sfreccia su una classica strada provinciale del nord Italia, in mezzo ai boschi, una di quelle da cartolina insomma.

Just imagine for a moment a Ford GT40, pedal to the metal, that blasts on a classic secondary road in the north of Italy, through a forest, just like one of those that you see on the postcards.

La Modena Cento Ore non è la solita sfilata di auto classiche e non è nemmeno una frenetica corsa contro il tempo. E’ un evento fatto per divertirsi e far divertire, sia i partecipanti che gli spettatori.

The Modena Cento Ore is not the average parade of classic cars nor is a frantic race against the time. It’s an event made to have some fun and to entertain, both the participants and the spectators.

Diversi equipaggi arrivano guidando l’auto fin da casa o legandole per bene su un semplice carrello da trasporto, valigie nel bagagliaio e occhiali da sole in volto.

Various crews arrive by driving their car straight from home or by secure them with some straps on a simple trailer, luggage in the boot and sunglasses on the face.

Altri invece arrivano da oltre Oceano, per poter godere del piacere di guidare nel Bel Paese, magari con una macchina costruita mezzo secolo fa proprio nella Motor Valley.

Others, instead, arrive from across the Ocean to be able to enjoy the pleasure of driving in the Bel Paese, maybe with a car built half a century ago right in the in the Motor Valley.

C’è chi porta il concetto di assistenza tecnica a un livello superiore, con addirittura furgoni ex-ufficiali, e c’è chi invece parte solamente con un set di attrezzi e ricambi nel bagagliaio. Ma come tra i migliori gentlemen accade, se qualcuno ha bisogno di qualcosa c’è sempre chi è disposto ad aiutare.

There is also who brings the concept of assistance to the next level, by using an ex-official truck, and there is who starts the journey with just a set of tools and a few spare parts in the boot. But as happens amongst the best gentlemen, if anyone needs anything there is always someone willing to help.
